Investigators said the woman was found on the ground after a reported assault call.
HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police are investigating whether a woman found dead Friday night at a west Houston apartment complex fell from a third-story balcony or was pushed.
The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found on the ground at the Woodland Park Apartments on Woodland Park Drive after a 911 caller reported an assault about 8:15 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said no one had been arrested by Saturday. Investigators had not released the woman’s name and said they were still trying to determine whether she lived at the complex or had gone there to visit someone.
Lt. Pulido of the Houston Police Department said detectives did not find identification near the woman. “We’re gonna have to wait for the autopsy,” Pulido said, adding that officers found no clear identifying markers at the scene.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators searched the property for evidence overnight. Police also canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance video that could show what happened before the woman was found.
The death was being handled as a homicide investigation while officials worked to confirm the facts. Police had not released a cause of death, a motive or a suspect description. The Harris County medical examiner’s findings are expected to guide the next stage of the case.
The investigation remained active Saturday, with police saying the woman’s identity and the circumstances of her death were still unknown.
