Chicago detectives were searching for a white SUV seen fleeing north on Hermitage Avenue.
CHICAGO — Chicago police were investigating a deadly drive-by shooting Saturday after two men were killed and a woman was critically wounded outside a home in West Englewood.
The attack was reported shortly after 12:45 a.m. in the 6500 block of South Hermitage Avenue. Police said three people were standing outside when a white SUV approached and a male suspect inside fired into the group.
The wounded men, ages 30 and 31, were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Police said the 30-year-old was shot in the head and the 31-year-old was shot in the chest. Both died at the hospital.
A 26-year-old woman was shot in the body and was also taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. Authorities had not publicly identified any of the victims by Saturday morning, and police had not said whether the victims were targeted.
Investigators said the SUV left northbound on Hermitage Avenue after the shooting. No arrests were reported, and police did not immediately release a license plate number or detailed suspect description. Area One detectives are leading the investigation.
The shooting took place on a residential South Side block during the early morning hours, when neighbors were likely inside or near their homes. Detectives typically look for private security video, doorbell cameras, shell casings and witness statements in drive-by shooting cases.
Police had not announced charges, recovered weapon details or a motive as of Saturday morning. The case remained open, with the next update expected from Chicago police or the Cook County medical examiner after family notifications are complete.
