Roommate Conflict Over Trash Leads to Tragic Double Homicide on Colorado College Campus

Colorado Springs, Colorado – A tragic incident unfolded on the University of Colorado Colorado Springs campus, where conflicts between roommates escalated into a deadly confrontation leading to the deaths of a college student and a woman in a dormitory.

According to a recently unsealed court document, the roommates had various disputes, one notably over the simple task of taking out the trash. These disputes culminated in the arrest of Nicholas Trevon Jordan, 25, a student at the university, who now faces two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Samuel Knopp, 24, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26. The fatal incident occurred on February 16 in a dormitory at the Crestone House residences on campus.

The court affidavit revealed that tensions between Jordan and Knopp had been ongoing, with Knopp allegedly receiving a death threat from Jordan after collecting a bag of garbage and placing it near Jordan’s door in January. This incident, along with previous complaints lodged by Knopp with campus police and housing officials, highlighted a pattern of conflict stemming from cleanliness and living conditions within the dormitory.

On the day of the shooting, security footage captured an unidentified individual entering the dorm complex, matching the use of Jordan’s access card. Shortly after, the same individual was seen leaving the complex in haste. Following the incident, Jordan, who hails from Detroit, was apprehended in the Colorado Springs area and is currently detained on a $5 million bond.

Knopp, a music student, was preparing for a senior recital on March 21, showcasing his talent in various music genres. Montgomery, on the other hand, was pursuing studies in culinary arts at Pueblo Community College in 2020. The nature of her relationship with Knopp remains unclear.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Jordan is set to appear for a status hearing on March 15, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 27 in El Paso County District Court. The motive behind the tragic events continues to be investigated as the community mourns the loss of two promising individuals.
