Police described the attack near Camaron Street as apparently random.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A 52-year-old man was stabbed multiple times Wednesday afternoon while washing his hands in a downtown public restroom, San Antonio police said.
Officers were called just before 3 p.m. to the 100 block of Camaron Street for a cutting in progress. Police said the victim was inside the restroom when another man attacked him without warning. The victim was taken for medical care. His condition was not immediately released.
Investigators said early information pointed to an apparent random attack. Police had not released the suspect’s name, age or a full description as of Thursday. It was not clear whether the suspect and victim knew each other before the stabbing.
The stabbing happened in a busy downtown area near public offices, transit stops and pedestrian traffic. Camaron Street runs through a central part of San Antonio where workers, visitors and residents move through during the day.
Police were expected to review evidence from the scene and any available surveillance video from nearby buildings. No charges had been announced in the first public reports on the case.
The case remained under investigation Thursday. Police had not announced an arrest or said what led to the attack.
