Provo man arrested after body found in shed

PROVO, UT – Authorities have detained a man after the discovery of a woman’s body in a shed on a residential property in Provo. The police are awaiting official identification of the victim, initially believed to be a missing woman.

The incident unfolded when officers responded to a call at a home near West 750 and Heather Lane on a recent afternoon. The woman’s body was located in a detached shed behind the residence, and authorities suspect domestic violence may have played a role in her death.

Arturo Carrion, 53, who resides at the address, has been arrested and is considered a suspect in the case. Witnesses reported seeing Carrion conversing casually outside the home shortly before police arrived, showing no signs of distress or wrongdoing.

Carrion is currently held in Utah County Jail, facing charges of first-degree felony murder. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges could be filed as more evidence emerges.

The tragic case underscores a troubling trend in Utah County, where domestic violence incidents have more than doubled from 2019 to 2022. The area is served by only one shelter, which offers 25 beds for a population exceeding 732,000 across Utah and Juab counties.

Ashley Taylor, the executive director of The Refuge, Utah, noted that shelter beds rarely remain unoccupied for more than a day or two. The organization is working to expand its capacity, planning a new facility with up to 138 beds to better meet the community’s needs.

Taylor emphasized the importance of having more shelter beds readily available and expanding services to ensure the safety of those in need. She stressed the need for increased resources and staff to handle the growing demand for support.

In the interim, The Refuge, Utah, continues to seek safe accommodations for those they cannot house immediately. The organization is actively raising funds to support the expansion and welcomes donations from the public.

For those affected by domestic violence, resources are available through the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition. The organization offers support and guidance for individuals and families in crisis.
