The shooting was reported Monday morning at JAT Partner Logistics.
MIDLAND, Texas — Midland County deputies are investigating after three workers were found dead with apparent gunshot wounds Monday at a logistics business east of Midland, authorities said.
The Midland County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called about 10 a.m. June 22 to the 5400 block of East County Road 80 for a shots-fired report. When they arrived, they found three dead people at JAT Partner Logistics. Officials said the public was not believed to be in danger.
The scene was near North County Road 1140 and East Highway 80, close to a stretch of business and industrial traffic east of Midland. Deputies secured the property while investigators began processing the area. The Midland County Crisis Intervention Unit also responded, a sign that employees and relatives were being supported as the investigation began.
The sheriff’s office released few details in its first statement. Officials did not identify the victims, describe a motive or say whether the gunman was alive, dead or in custody. The agency said the investigation remained active. “There is no risk to the public at this time,” the sheriff’s office said.
Local reports identified the site as a trucking company and said the people killed were employees. Witnesses told one station that the gunfire began after a person arrived at the business, but investigators had not publicly confirmed the sequence. Authorities also had not said whether the shooting happened inside the building, outside it or in both areas.
The case added to a difficult month for Midland-area law enforcement. On June 12, a separate active-shooter case in Midland left one person dead and several people injured before the suspect was found dead. Monday’s shooting was not publicly tied to that earlier case.
Next steps include formal identification of the victims, autopsy work and review of any video from the business or nearby properties. Investigators also are expected to interview workers and others who were in the area when shots were reported. No charges had been announced by Tuesday.
As of Tuesday, the sheriff’s office had not released another full update. The main official finding remained that three workers were dead and that the public was not facing an ongoing threat.
