Workers Smelled Odor, Then Found Two Dead Men In Van

Harris County homicide detectives are tracing the vehicle’s path from an auction to a repair yard.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two adult men were found dead Saturday inside a wrecked minivan at an Aldine-area auto repair shop, prompting a Harris County homicide investigation into how the vehicle reached the business with bodies inside.

Deputies and emergency medical workers were called about 9 a.m. to a business property in the 13600 block of Reeveston Road after a 911 caller reported the discovery. Investigators said the men were in the back of the minivan and appeared to be in the early stages of decomposition.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the minivan had arrived at the property Friday afternoon after it was dropped off by a tow or transport vehicle. The vehicle was damaged, not drivable and had been bought at an auction outside Harris County before the new owner sent it to the shop for repairs.

Employees noticed a foul odor coming from the minivan before finding the bodies, investigators said. Sheriff’s officials said homicide detectives interviewed witnesses while the Crime Scene Unit processed the property. The men’s names were not released because investigators were still working to confirm their identities and notify relatives.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences removed the bodies from the scene. Autopsies were expected to determine the cause and manner of death. Officials had not said whether there were signs of violence, how long the bodies had been inside the van or where the men were before the vehicle arrived at the repair shop.

Detectives are trying to locate the driver of the transport vehicle and trace the minivan’s movements before it reached Reeveston Road. Investigators also are reviewing the vehicle’s auction history, where it was stored and who had access to it before delivery.

The discovery turned a routine repair delivery into a death investigation in an industrial stretch near West Hardy Road and the Hardy Toll Road. Authorities said the shop workers who found the bodies remained part of the witness timeline, not suspects announced by officials.

The case remained open Tuesday as detectives awaited autopsy results and formal identification of the two men. No arrests or charges had been announced.
