Police Uncover ‘Honey Trap’ Scheme as Teen Gang Launches Violent Attack on Officers in Shocking Kidnapping Incident

Adabor, Bangladesh — Police are investigating a violent incident that occurred Monday night, suspecting that a so-called “honey trap” led to an assault on law enforcement officers. The confrontation erupted when a scheme to extort ransom disguised as a rescue attempt backfired in the Sunibir Housing area.

Around 10 p.m., the chaos began when police driver Al Amin suffered serious injuries after being attacked with a machete by a group of local youths. The assailants not only assaulted Amin but also vandalized a police vehicle and attempted to set it ablaze.

In response to the violence, law enforcement initiated overnight operations, resulting in the arrest of 102 individuals. Five of those arrests are linked to the ongoing investigation, while others face separate charges. Among the key suspects is a teenager identified as “Raju,” along with his brothers, Roni and Jony.

Assistant Commissioner Mehedi Hasan, who oversees the Mohammadpur-Adabor Zone, stated that the situation escalated following a distress call to emergency services reporting the alleged abduction of a couple by local criminals. “When officers arrived to intervene, they were met with aggressive resistance,” Hasan noted.

Investigators revealed that the incident arose when a young man went to visit his girlfriend, only to be seized by local thugs demanding a large ransom. As negotiations unfolded, the couple was moved between various locations under the pretense of safety.

At one point, the young man managed to alert his family, who then contacted the police. However, before help could arrive, a physical altercation erupted between the relatives and the kidnappers, leaving several individuals injured.

Inspector Abdul Malek of the Adabor Police stated that during the chaotic scene, officers found themselves pursuing the suspects across rooftops as the gang continuously relocated the couple to evade capture. Both the young man’s father and Al Amin sustained injuries during the tumult.

Authorities have asserted that the female victim, identified as Rina Begum, was allegedly used by the gang to lure the young man, indicating a premeditated plan to exploit the situation. She was among those detained as part of the sweeping arrests.

“We are looking into the specifics of each individual’s involvement in this case. If the family of the abducted youth chooses to take legal action, we will support them,” Malek mentioned.

As investigations continue, police remain focused on dismantling the operations of the gang, aiming to ensure safety in the community and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
