Four Killed In Shooting At Livonia Home, Police Say

A suspect who lived at the home was taken into custody after officers arrived.

LIVONIA, Mich. — Four adults were found shot to death Tuesday evening at a home in Livonia, where police said a suspect came out with raised hands and was taken into custody without incident.

Officers were called about 5:47 p.m. June 9 to a residence in the 19000 block of Rensellor Street near 7 Mile Road for reports of shots fired. Police said there was no ongoing threat to the public as the investigation continued.

Police said officers encountered a person leaving the home with hands raised as they arrived. “Officers observed an adult male exit the residence with his hands raised indicating he had shot family members at the residence,” police said in a written statement. The person was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities said a gun was recovered at the home.

Investigators said two victims were found dead from gunshot wounds inside a bedroom. Two more victims were found in the backyard and also were pronounced dead at the scene. Police said all four victims were adults. Their names and ages had not been released. Authorities said three of the victims were believed to be related to the suspect, while a fourth was in a relationship with someone inside the home.

The shooting drew a large police response to the residential area west of Detroit. Viewer video shared with a local station showed officers and patrol vehicles gathered near the home. Police said one person who lived at the residence remained in custody. Officials had not released a motive or said what happened before the gunfire.

The case remained active Wednesday as Livonia police worked to confirm relationships, notify relatives and review evidence from the house. Authorities had not announced charges, court dates or the suspect’s name. More details were expected after investigators completed early interviews and scene processing.

The 19000 block of Rensellor Street sits in a neighborhood near 7 Mile Road, an area of single-family homes in Wayne County. Police kept the public information narrow Tuesday night, saying the known danger had ended but that detectives were still working through the scene.

By Wednesday, the suspect was in custody, four adults were dead and police had recovered a weapon. The next major update was expected from Livonia officials as the investigation moved forward.
