Arizona Girl Endured ‘Torture’ Before Tragic Murder

PHOENIX, AZ – Grieving and determined, Damon Hawkins is seeking justice for his niece, Rebecca Baptist, following her tragic death. Hawkins is holding the system accountable, believing its failures played a role in this heartbreaking loss.

Rebecca died after spending several days in the hospital, alone and severely injured. Hawkins criticized the Department of Child Safety (DCS) for not informing the family, highlighting a critical need for change.

Court revelations painted a grim picture of Rebecca’s suffering. Her injuries, including missing toenails and severe bruises, pointed to abuse and neglect, raising questions about possible oversights by child protection services.

Facing charges are Rebecca’s father, Robert Baptist, and Anissa Woods, with allegations that Rebecca’s brothers were also abused. Woods confessed to prolonged physical abuse, according to prosecutors.

Hawkins detailed multiple attempts to warn authorities, expressing sorrow over missed chances to help. Despite efforts to see the children, he and his wife were consistently denied access.

DCS is now investigating to determine if procedural lapses contributed to the tragedy. While acknowledging challenges in predicting such outcomes, the agency stressed adherence to protocols.

Hawkins remains steadfast in his mission to advocate for Rebecca and other at-risk children. He emphasized the need for consistent, vigilant efforts to prevent future tragedies.

The unfolding case is driving calls for reforms in child protective services, aiming to better safeguard vulnerable children. Hawkins’s pursuit of justice for his niece highlights the urgent need for systemic improvements.
