COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County woman is recovering after undergoing a lengthy operation for an eye injury she suffered in a shooting while waiting at her young son’s school bus stop last week.
The woman, identified in local reporting as Harris, said her former boyfriend, Cole Holloway, shot her during an encounter at the bus stop. Holloway was arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault, hindering someone from making a 911 call and obstruction. The accusations against him have not been proven in court.
Harris underwent surgery lasting about two and a half hours after the shooting. She said her vision remained blurry as she recovered and that she did not know when she would be fully healed. The available reporting did not provide a medical prognosis beyond her account of her continuing symptoms.
Harris told FOX 5 Atlanta that she and Holloway had dated for about 10 months before their relationship ended in July. She said she moved afterward and did not provide him with her new address. Despite that, she said Holloway found her while she was waiting for her 8-year-old son’s school bus.
According to Harris, Holloway arrived in a vehicle before the confrontation. After she was shot, she said she attempted to call 911 but Holloway took her phone, preventing her from completing the call. Authorities later charged him with hindering an emergency call.
Harris said Holloway began to drive away and that she held onto the vehicle’s door window, causing her to be dragged. Police arrived during the incident, and her son’s school bus reached the stop as officers were responding, according to her account.
Police took Holloway into custody at the bus stop. Authorities said he resisted arrest, and he was subsequently charged with obstruction in addition to aggravated assault and hindering a 911 call. He was being held in the Cobb County Jail when the case was reported.
As the criminal case moves forward, Harris’ immediate focus remains her physical recovery. A fundraising effort has been established to help her family with medical costs, according to the local report. No timetable for the return of her normal vision has been released.
Information about Holloway’s next court appearance and whether he had retained an attorney was not available in the reporting. The charges remain pending as Harris continues recovering from her injuries.
