Woman Dies After Shocking Early-Morning Stabbing at Brickell High-Rise

Detectives reviewing video at the Solitair Brickell Apartments are investigating a domestic-related stabbing that left a woman dead Friday morning.

MIAMI, Fla. — Detectives were examining surveillance video Friday after a woman was fatally stabbed at a Brickell apartment tower, an investigation that brought a large police presence to the building and temporarily affected access through its main elevators.

Miami police responded to the Solitair Brickell Apartments at 86 SW Eighth St. at about 4:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a woman who had been stabbed. Officers arrived and found her suffering from multiple stab wounds. Police later confirmed that she died.

The investigation continued inside the high-rise through the morning as detectives sought to establish the sequence of events. Police described the case as an isolated domestic incident and detained a man for questioning. Authorities had not announced an arrest or charges against him.

Investigators were reviewing surveillance video from the property as they worked to determine what happened before and after the stabbing. Local reporting said the building’s main elevators were temporarily shut down during the investigation, adding to the visible disruption at the residential tower.

Police had not disclosed whether surveillance cameras recorded the stabbing or whether investigators had identified other video showing movements inside the building. Authorities also had not released details about what may have caused the confrontation or the relationship between the woman and the detained man.

Local reporting placed the stabbing on the building’s 47th floor, though Miami police had not publicly provided a detailed account of the precise location. Officers and police vehicles remained visible around the property after daybreak, with yellow tape marking part of the area near the building.

The early-morning response surprised people near the high-rise. Victor Vertiz told NBC 6 that the police presence was not what he normally expected to encounter there. “You wouldn’t expect to see something like that here,” he said.

The woman’s identity had not been released. Local reporting described her as being in her late 50s or early 60s. Police also had not identified the man detained for questioning or said whether investigators were seeking anyone else in connection with the case.

Authorities said the incident appeared to be isolated, but many details remained unresolved Friday, including the events leading to the stabbing and what evidence detectives had recovered. The investigation remained active as police continued reviewing information from the scene.
