LAS CRUCES, NM – A drive home for a local woman ended in a terrifying road rage incident that has left her with injuries and unanswered questions. The victim, known as Charlie, shared her story of the unsettling encounter that escalated into violence.
It all started when Charlie noticed a driver behaving erratically behind her. Despite keeping to the speed limit, the driver, later identified as Nathan Engelbrecht, aggressively pursued her vehicle, attempting to pass her on multiple occasions.
Concerned for her safety, Charlie decided to pull into a busy parking lot on Espina Street, hoping the public space would diffuse the situation. However, Engelbrecht followed her, approached her car, and physically assaulted her.
Despite her shock and injuries, Charlie managed to note Engelbrecht’s license plate and contact the authorities. A police officer in the vicinity quickly intervened, allowing her to report the incident and point out the suspect’s vehicle.
Engelbrecht was later apprehended at his job, where it was revealed he worked as a counselor. This discovery left Charlie and others stunned, questioning how someone in such a role could commit such violence.
Video footage from the scene, which captured the suspect’s vehicle and license plate, was instrumental in his arrest. This evidence proved critical in building the case against Engelbrecht, who now faces serious charges.
The owner of the establishment, Marci Dickerson, expressed her shock and emphasized the importance of community awareness and video evidence in tackling such incidents.
Las Cruces Police Chief Jeremy Story addressed the increasing frequency and severity of road rage cases in the area, urging residents to report any aggressive behavior they encounter on the roads.
Charlie hopes for justice, maintaining that nothing could justify the attack she suffered. Her ordeal highlights the importance of community cooperation and the role of technology in securing justice.
