Gonda, India — A man was arrested Sunday in connection with the murder of his live-in partner, whose body was discovered earlier this month in Ludhiana. Police officials reported that Sunil Kumar, a resident of Khwajajot village in the Dhanepur area, is currently in custody and will be extradited to Punjab for further investigation.
Authorities stated that the incident occurred June 8. Sunil, who had relocated to Ludhiana for work, initially shared a harmonious relationship with Radhika, a 20-year-old woman he met at a local factory. The couple had been living together in a rented home for approximately six months, but their relationship took a dark turn when Sunil learned of Radhika’s previous marriage.
Inspector Aditya Sharma, who led the investigation, described how the revelation ignited a heated argument between the pair. “A few days before the tragedy, Sunil found out about Radhika’s past and confronted her,” Sharma said. During their dispute on the night of the murder, authorities allege that Sunil restrained Radhika before strangling her.
Following the tragic event, Radhika’s family became concerned when they could not reach her. Her brother, Rahul, approached local law enforcement to report her missing, which led to the discovery of her body and the subsequent filing of a formal complaint.
Sunil fled the scene after the incident but was later located in his home village. Punjab Police worked closely with local authorities to apprehend him. Following his arrest, police officials confirmed that Sunil would be transported back to Punjab under transit remand.
The incident has left the local community in shock, as friends and neighbors of the couple expressed disbelief at the violence. Many who knew them described Radhika as a hardworking individual with a promising future. Community members are now calling for increased awareness around domestic violence and the impact of unresolved past relationships.
The investigation remains ongoing, as authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. As the case unfolds, it serves as a somber reminder of the complexities that can arise in personal relationships.
