Teen Stabbed in Head and Neck During Queens Attack

The NYPD said no arrests had been made after the Monday night attack in Astoria.

QUEENS, N.Y. — A 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old boy were injured Monday night when a fight involving five people ended in a stabbing in Astoria, police said.

The attack was reported around 8:30 p.m. near 31st Avenue and 45th Street. Police said the younger victim suffered stab wounds to the head, neck and back. The older victim was stabbed in the face. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to police, the teens were approached by a group of five people before an argument began. The dispute escalated, and at least one person stabbed the teens. The group then left the scene before officers made any arrests.

Investigators had not publicly identified the victims or suspects. Police said three males were among the five people who approached the teens, but further descriptions were not released. The motive was still unknown.

The case is being reviewed as an assault investigation. Detectives were expected to look for surveillance video from nearby buildings and speak with witnesses who may have seen the confrontation or the group leaving the area.

The stabbing happened in a mixed residential and commercial section of Astoria, where evening activity often continues after work hours. Police had not said whether the confrontation began on the sidewalk, in the street or outside a specific business.

No charges had been filed as of Wednesday. Police had not reported recovering a weapon, and the exact number of attackers who used force remained part of the investigation.

The two teens survived, but police continued searching for the people involved as detectives worked to determine what sparked the fight.
