Los Angeles, Calif. — The music industry is mourning the loss of Robin Kaye, a veteran music supervisor for American Idol, and her husband, Thomas Deluca, who were found dead in their home on Monday. Both were 70 years old.
Los Angeles police responded to a welfare check at the couple’s residence in the Encino neighborhood. Officers arrived around 2:30 p.m. and discovered the couple with fatal gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
A spokesperson for American Idol expressed deep sorrow at the news of Kaye and Deluca’s passing. “Robin was a pillar of our show since 2009, deeply cherished by everyone who knew her,” the spokesperson said. “She will forever hold a place in our hearts, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during this challenging time.”
According to police reports, no motive has yet been identified, but detectives from the LAPD’s Valley Bureau Homicide Division are actively investigating the case. Later updates indicated that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Kaye’s career spanned over two decades and included significant contributions to 288 episodes of American Idol. Her extensive resume also featured roles as music supervisor for various prestigious events and programs, including the NAACP Image Awards and Miss USA.
Her career began in Nashville with country music legend Waylon Jennings before she moved on to various roles in music management and licensing. She played an instrumental part in shaping soundtracks for numerous television shows, eventually founding her own company, SyncroniCity, focusing on music supervision.
In addition to her work in the industry, Kaye served as Vice President of the Guild of Music Supervisors, further underscoring her impact on the profession. Phil Gurin, a colleague and friend who worked alongside Kaye for years, expressed his devastation, stating, “The news about her and her husband is simply tragic. Robin was a trusted and vital part of our team, and her loss is felt deeply by the entire community.”
