Minneapolis, Minn. — An 11-year-old boy lost his life in a shooting incident on Monday afternoon in Folwell Park, sparking ongoing concern in the community about youth violence. Police were called to the scene shortly after 2 p.m. following reports of gunfire along Dowling Avenue North, according to a statement from Minneapolis police.
Witnesses at the intersection of Morgan and Dowling avenues reported hearing cries for help. A resident who lived nearby discovered the injured boy with at least one life-threatening gunshot wound in front of his home. At the time, the boy was accompanied by two other male adolescents, whose ages have not yet been disclosed.
In an urgent attempt to save the boy’s life, the resident began transporting him to a nearby hospital. En route, he encountered a police officer at the intersection of Dowling and Penn avenues and stopped to seek assistance. Officers quickly took over, initiating life-saving measures. Despite the immediate response from fire and emergency personnel, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities believe the shooting occurred in Folwell Park, where multiple reports of gunfire were recorded. Witnesses noted that several vehicles were seen driving through the park during the incident, and at least one or two additional vehicles were parked nearby.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to this tragic event. The relationship between the victim and the two other individuals present at the time of the shooting remains unclear.
