MERCER ISLAND, Wash. — A tragic series of events unfolded in late December when police discovered the bodies of four family members in two neighboring homes, leading investigators to suspect the involvement of a man believed to be the shooter.
Authorities identified Mackenzie “Mack” Williams, 45, as the primary suspect in the deaths of his wife, Harmony Williams; his brother, Dominick “Nick” Cuvillier; and his mother, Danielle Cuvillier. They believe he ultimately turned the gun on himself. The bodies were found on December 30, 2025, in homes located in Mercer Island and nearby Issaquah.
Information has surfaced regarding an email sent by Mack Williams early that Tuesday morning, just hours before the grisly discoveries. The correspondence raised alarms among recipients, prompting a welfare check by police at his residence. In the email, Williams referenced his firearms and suggested friends could retrieve them if they wished, foreshadowing the events that would soon transpire.
By approximately 10:45 a.m., officers entered Danielle Cuvillier’s home on Mercer Island, where they found both her and Mack Williams dead from gunshot wounds. Initial assessments led investigators to classify the situation as a homicide followed by a suicide. The investigation continued as officers responded to a home in Issaquah, where they located Harmony Williams and Nick Cuvillier, whose deaths were also attributed to gunfire.
Court records reveal a troubling family history, marked by a prolonged dispute over guardianship of Nick, who had a rare genetic disorder that necessitated constant care. Danielle Cuvillier sought a protection order against Mack Williams about a year prior, citing concerns regarding his mental health and access to firearms. Following the issuance of this order, Mack surrendered 53 firearms to law enforcement.
The protection order was lifted only weeks before the tragic events. Concern for Nick’s safety became a significant issue for Mack Williams over the years, given his mother’s previous alarming statements regarding harming herself and Nick. Tensions escalated, with law enforcement responding to a domestic incident involving a physical confrontation between Mack and his mother in January 2025. This incident prompted Mack Williams to contact protective services regarding Nick’s welfare.
Friends described Mack Williams as an unemployed computer professional with degrees in engineering from the University of Washington. He had reportedly faced significant challenges in recent months, including an ongoing lack of employment and mounting personal stressors related to family dynamics.
Authorities are still piecing together the chain of events that led to the heartbreaking loss of life. As investigations unfold, community members grapple with the aftermath of this tragedy. Support is available for those in crisis, with resources such as national helplines and counseling services ready to assist those affected by violence and loss.
