Tragic Discovery: Broken Arrow Family Unraveled by Possible Murder-Suicide, Revealing Layers of Heartbreak and Mystery

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Authorities have identified the deceased individuals discovered in a home earlier this week, naming them as a father and his young son amid investigations into a potential murder-suicide. The man, 58-year-old Rodney Shippy, is also the father of Alyssa Shippy, a 20-year-old woman who has been missing since November 2024.

Broken Arrow Police were initially called to the residence near West Roanoke Street and South Ash Avenue as part of a welfare check related to Alyssa’s disappearance. Upon arriving, officers discovered Rodney Shippy deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, alongside his 10-year-old son, Logan, and a family dog. Investigators later found an additional adult female body in the home, believed to be Alyssa, but the medical examiner has yet to confirm her identity.

According to police, Alyssa Shippy is the granddaughter of Diane and Kenneth Carpenter, who were involved in a murder-suicide case in the same city in 2023. The circumstances surrounding the Shippy family’s case have raised numerous questions, particularly regarding Alyssa’s state of well-being before her disappearance.

Patti Williams, a relative of the Shippy family, expressed concern about Alyssa after she had moved out of Williams’ home at the end of last year. Williams attempted to reach out to Alyssa but received limited responses, prompting worry among family members. Recently, they stumbled upon a YouTube video posted by Logan that depicted the unkempt state of their home, leading to alarm about their living conditions.

Williams recounted her conversation with Rodney, noting his vague responses when she inquired about Alyssa. “I wanted to know if everyone was okay, and he seemed evasive,” she said. Following her concerns, she reported Alyssa missing and urged authorities to investigate further, citing Logan’s potentially dangerous circumstances.

Neighbors reported that Rodney had mentioned Alyssa’s death back in March, which had not been documented officially. Relatives were taken aback by the conflicting information and rumors circulating about her condition, which included bizarre stories about illness and accidents. Support from neighbors had apparently come in the form of financial assistance, as many believed Alyssa was suffering from cancer.

Further complicating matters, community members had previously notified child protective services about Logan being seen alone in the neighborhood, but no intervention occurred. Williams expressed her shock at the tragic outcome, saying, “I can’t make sense of what transpired behind closed doors, but he cared deeply for his children.”

Describing Logan, Williams remarked on his bright personality and the warmth he brought to his neighborhood. “He would run out to accompany neighbors walking their dogs,” she recalled. Regarding Alyssa, she lamented, “She had a whole future ahead of her, and now that has been stolen.”

Police have indicated that they will continue to investigate the scene and the circumstances of the women’s death, assuring the public that there is no ongoing threat. As details unfold, community members are left grappling with the tragic loss, and a memorial fund has been established in honor of Alyssa and Logan.
