The death of a 19-year-old woman left residents watching as investigators searched the block for answers.
NORFOLK, Va. — A fatal shooting on Arcadia Street left a Norfolk neighborhood shaken Saturday after a 19-year-old woman was shot and killed during the afternoon, police said.
The shooting brought officers and forensic investigators to a residential area near Scott Street and Virginia Beach Boulevard on June 27. Police said the woman died after the shooting, and detectives were still working to determine who fired the shots and why.
Neighbors saw a heavy police presence as investigators marked off part of the block and gathered evidence. The Norfolk Police Department said the investigation remained active. Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi said police had “good leads,” though authorities did not describe those leads or say whether they had identified a person of interest.
Officials had not released the victim’s name by Monday afternoon. Police also had not said whether the woman lived in the area, whether she knew the shooter or whether anyone else was involved. No other injuries had been confirmed in public updates.
The shooting unfolded in a part of Norfolk close to Virginia Beach Boulevard, a major corridor through the city. The location brought concern because the gunfire happened in daylight, when residents were likely home or moving through the area. Police did not say how many shots were fired.
The next step is expected to be a police update if detectives make an arrest or release the victim’s identity. Until then, the case remains a homicide investigation with several key questions unanswered.
