Los Angeles — An arrest was made Wednesday in connection to two fatal shootings in Los Angeles that occurred just two miles apart, authorities announced. Marvin Magana, 50, was taken into custody after he voluntarily disclosed his involvement in one of the incidents upon entering the 77th Area Station of the Los Angeles Police Department late Tuesday.
Magana confessed to officers at the station that a woman could be found dead in a car parked in Koreatown, and admitted to his role in another homicide earlier the same day in the Mid-Wilshire area. Responding to the suspect’s information around 10:24 p.m., police officers discovered a 38-year-old woman dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the passenger seat of a vehicle at the intersection of Berendo and 8th streets. Her identity has yet to be released.
Additionally, Magana provided details on an earlier incident involving a male victim. At approximately 4:15 p.m. on the same day, a man in his 40s, later identified as 43-year-old Jorge Guerrero Hurtado, was fatally shot multiple times while riding an e-bike at the 900 block of S. Victoria Avenue. Police investigations suggest that prior to the shooting, Hurtado was intentionally struck by the suspect’s car.
The gruesome nature of these crimes heightened tensions and prompted an immediate investigation by local police. They revealed that the suspect, described as a man in his 50s with a beard, was wearing an orange jacket and fled the crime scenes in a dark blue or dark purple sedan before his eventual confession at the police station.
Authorities have yet to determine whether the woman found in Koreatown was killed at the location where her body was discovered, or elsewhere. Additionally, police are investigating any potential link between Magana and the female victim.
