ALBUQUERQUE, NM – In a bizarre incident at Central and University, police investigating a car crash discovered that the two drivers were siblings, Randall and Keeley James, who were trying to protect each other from blame. The crash occurred on April 9, when Keeley rear-ended Randall’s car, prompting a police response.
Officers arrived at the scene to find Randall advising his sister to run away, signaling a cover-up attempt. During questioning, Randall admitted that they had both been drinking, though he insisted he had consumed more alcohol.
Despite the siblings’ claims of responsibility, officers had access to surveillance footage that captured the accident, allowing them to determine the true events. Keeley also tried to take the fall, expressing a desire to keep her brother out of trouble.
Randall, anticipating arrest, acknowledged his fate to the officers. A field sobriety test confirmed his impairment, resulting in his arrest for a fourth DWI offense. His conduct worsened at the transport center, where he resisted police efforts and attempted to harm himself.
Keeley was found to be significantly over the legal alcohol limit, and both siblings now face pending charges. Randall’s previous convictions add complexity to his legal situation as the case unfolds.
