Court records show one brother was denied bond and the other received a $15,000 bond.
GREENVILLE, S.C. — A second teen has been arrested in the Haywood Mall shooting case, making two brothers charged after gunfire injured two people during a busy Saturday afternoon at the Greenville shopping center.
Greenville police said 18-year-old Kalief Walker was arrested after he was released from the hospital Friday. His brother, 17-year-old Kamari Stephone Walker, had already been charged as an adult with high and aggravated assault and battery. Police said the case remains under investigation.
The shooting was reported about 1:11 p.m. June 13 near the plaza between Macy’s and Belk. An officer working at the mall heard what sounded like gunshots and found a woman shot in the foot, police said. The officer then went to Belk and found a man shot in the shoulder and neck. Police later identified that wounded man as Kalief Walker.
Kalief Walker faces three charges: breach of peace high and aggravated, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of a stolen pistol. Bond court set his bond at $15,000 total. Kamari Walker was denied bond. Authorities said some charges tied to Kamari Walker could not be released publicly because he is a minor.
Police said early findings show the shooting was isolated and grew from an argument involving people who knew one another. The woman who was shot appeared to be a bystander, police said. Both injured people were taken to a hospital in stable condition. Several people were detained while officers searched and cleared the mall.
Emergency workers set up a pickup area on the ground floor of the parking garage near Dillard’s as shoppers left the mall. Greenlink provided an air-conditioned bus for people waiting outside. One shopper said police led customers out one by one with their hands up after employees kept checking on people sheltering inside stores.
The case also brought renewed attention to prior incidents at the mall. Police and local reports described a May 2025 food court fight that caused panic, a June 2025 parking lot fight where a shot was fired and a December 2025 arrest of a minor accused of having a gun inside the mall.
Greenville police said they would review the response with other agencies and examine safety steps with mall management. The department said mall management was increasing security and hiring additional off-duty officers to work around the property.
The case now moves through Greenville County court as detectives continue to identify others involved and review what happened before the gunfire. Additional charges or hearings may follow as the investigation develops.
