Daughter Shot Middletown Father Four Times Inside Apartment

Officers said the wounded man was found after they broke up a fight.

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — Police are investigating a late-night shooting at a Jackson Lane apartment after authorities said a woman shot her father four times and was arrested at the scene.

The shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, after Middletown officers were called to the apartment for a disturbance. Police said officers arrived to find two people in a physical fight and separated them before discovering that one person had multiple gunshot wounds.

Middletown Police Chief Earl Nelson said the wounded man was Coleman’s father. He was first taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, then transferred to another hospital. Nelson said Friday morning that the man was alive, while police described his injuries as potentially life-threatening.

Olivia Coleman, 32, was arrested right away, police said. She was booked into the Middletown City Jail on a felonious assault charge. A separate police account said an officer was assaulted during the incident and had minor injuries, leading to an additional assault on a police officer charge.

Police had not said what caused the dispute. Nelson said investigators were still working to learn what happened before the shooting. Detectives remained at the apartment for hours to process the scene, collect evidence and speak with people in the area.

Neighbors said the police response kept some residents away from their homes for at least four hours. One neighbor told reporters Coleman had been involved in another fight the day before, saying three women had fought earlier and that the same woman was tied to the shooting case.

The investigation remained active Friday. Police had not released the father’s name, the type of gun used or whether any previous domestic calls had been made to the same apartment. Officials also had not released a full timeline beyond the initial 12:30 a.m. response.

Coleman remained jailed as detectives continued reviewing evidence from the Jackson Lane apartment. Police said the case was still open, and more details could be released after investigators complete the next steps.
