Newark, NJ — Law enforcement officials in Newark are intensifying their search for three men linked to a brutal robbery that occurred over the weekend. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving one victim battered and without his possessions.
The assault reportedly took place around 2:45 a.m. on the 100 block of Van Buren Street, where the victim was confronted and subsequently attacked by the trio. Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé provided a detailed account of the assault, noting that the victim was violently thrown to the ground and sustained multiple kicks and punches from the assailants.
The robbers made off with the victim’s wallet, containing $300, and an iPhone 14 Pro, fleeing the scene southbound on Van Buren Street towards Lafayette Street. The escape route taken by the perpetrators was quickly identified which has directed the subsequent police investigation.
In an effort to apprehend the individuals responsible, the Newark Police Department has released detailed descriptions of the suspects involved. The first suspect is described as a man in his mid-twenties, of shorter stature, clean-shaven and was notably wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers cap, blue pants, black shoes and a shirt bearing a recognizable “Get To The Bag” logo.
The second suspect, also in his mid-to-late twenties, is reported to be of a thin build and short, dressed in a black jacket, blue basketball shorts, a dark hat, and gray sneakers. The third man, matching the short stature of his accomplices, lacked facial hair and was wearing a black Puma sweatsuit with distinctive white stripes and black and white shoes.
Given the severity of the robbery and the clear danger these individuals pose to the public, Director Fragé urged the community to come forward with any information that might help identify the assailants.
