NEW DELHI — A shocking incident in Gujarat’s Patan district has led to the arrest of a woman and her partner, who are accused of killing a man and attempting to stage her own death. This chilling plot unfolded late Tuesday night when local authorities discovered a charred body near a pond in Jakhotra village.
Initially, the remains were thought to belong to 22-year-old Geeta Ahir due to the clothing found on the body. However, subsequent investigations revealed that the victim was actually 56-year-old Harjibhai Solanki, a nomadic individual residing in nearby Vauva village.
Authorities apprehended Geeta, along with her 21-year-old accomplice Bharat Ahir, early Wednesday morning at the Palanpur railway station. The couple was reportedly preparing to flee to Rajasthan when they were detained. According to Patan Superintendent of Police V. K. Nayi, Geeta’s plan was inspired by the film “Drishyam,” which revolves around crime and deception.
Police reports indicate that Geeta left her home while her family was asleep, launching a series of events that would lead to tragedy. Concerned family members searched for her and stumbled upon the body, prompting calls to law enforcement after they mistakenly believed it was Geeta’s. The discovery quickly escalated into a murder investigation as police identified Solanki as the deceased.
Further inquiries pointed to a sinister development: Bharat had encountered Solanki on May 26 and allegedly offered him a ride. In a secluded area, Bharat is accused of strangling Solanki before transporting the body to the pond. Geeta is said to have arrived later with petrol to assist in furthering their gruesome scheme. Once at the pond, the pair dressed Solanki in Geeta’s traditional clothing and ignited the body to incinerate evidence of their crime.
The couple reportedly confessed to the crime during police interrogation, unveiling the details of their plot. Authorities continue to investigate the case, delving into both the motivations behind the crime and the broader implications of such deceptive acts. Both suspects are currently in custody, and police are expanding the inquiry to uncover any additional accomplices or information related to the case.
This troubling incident has shocked the local community, raising questions about the darker influences of media on real-life behavior and the lengths to which individuals might go when conceiving plans based on fiction.
