Dr. Archana Rahule, 52, a senior assistant professor in the physiotherapy department at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Nagpur, was found deceased in her home under circumstances that were strategically altered to suggest a robbery. Her husband, Dr. Anil Rahule, 52, along with his brother Raju Rahule, 48, a farmer, are now the primary suspects in the investigation of her murder.
The case surfaced when Dr. Anil Rahule, who works in Raipur, returned home on April 12 to supposedly find his wife murdered and their house ransacked. Initially, this presentation led police to consider a break-in gone violently wrong. However, Dr. Anil Rahule’s statement to the police raised suspicions, primarily because he failed to maintain contact with his wife for the three days leading up to the discovery of her body, despite claiming no prior disputes.
Further police investigation revealed critical inconsistencies. Dr. Anil Rahule’s mobile phone was tracked in Nagpur on April 9, the supposed day of the murder, although he had claimed to be in Raipur. Information gathered by the authorities indicated that the brothers had been in communication, exchanging encrypted messages for several months, suggesting a premeditated plan.
According to the police, on April 9, following a severe argument, Dr. Anil Rahule and his brother executed the grim act. Allegations state that while Anil restrained his wife, Raju inflicted the fatal blow to her head using an iron rod. After committing the crime, the brothers purportedly manipulated the crime scene to mimic the aftermath of a theft before fleeing the scene.
Senior Inspector Bhedodkar reported that the ongoing interrogations and collection of evidence aim to solidify the brothers’ motives and involvement in the crime. Initial investigations pointed towards jealousy and distrust as the primary motives. Additionally, close relatives and acquaintances of Dr. Archana Rahule recounted her previous confidences about marital discord and alleged threats from her husband, further complicating Dr. Anil Rahule’s initial portrayal of their relationship.
