The search for Tatyana McIntyre began with an ordinary family concern before detectives found her dead at an ex-boyfriend’s home.
FRESNO, Calif. — The search for a Fresno mother began after her daughter was not picked up from school, setting off efforts to find Tatyana McIntyre that ended days later with the discovery of her body and the arrest of a former boyfriend.
McIntyre’s ex-husband became concerned Aug. 4 after learning about the missed pickup and being unable to reach her. Investigators determined that her last known location was a southeast Fresno house owned by Jeffrey Vernon Michaels, who was identified as McIntyre’s ex-boyfriend.
What began as a search for a missing parent quickly took on greater urgency. Police served a search warrant at the residence and found McIntyre dead inside. Authorities said her body had several lacerations, but the available reporting did not provide a formal cause of death or a fuller account of the circumstances.
McIntyre’s disappearance left her family searching for answers while investigators worked to reconstruct her final movements. Her sister said McIntyre had seven children, including two with Michaels. The missed school pickup became the first publicly reported sign to relatives that something was wrong.
Investigators also located McIntyre’s car Tuesday night in an orchard. The vehicle was found away from the home where her body was later discovered, adding another location to the timeline police were examining. Authorities had not publicly explained who moved the car, when it arrived at the orchard or what evidence detectives recovered from it.
Michaels initially left Fresno, according to authorities. He later contacted police and surrendered Thursday evening. He was taken to the Fresno County Jail and held on a murder charge with bail set at $1 million.
Police Chief Mindy Casto said investigators did not yet know a motive. Authorities also had not publicly provided a detailed account of McIntyre’s final hours or said what they believe led to her death. Those unanswered questions remained central to the homicide investigation.
The case has left McIntyre’s family dealing with both her death and the needs of the children she leaves behind. Relatives established a fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses after learning she had been found dead.
The latest verified reporting did not identify any additional suspects or announce further arrests. Michaels remained in custody while Fresno police continued investigating McIntyre’s death and the events surrounding her disappearance.
