Washington, D.C. – Tensions soared aboard a recent flight as passenger Asterius Rulamka allegedly threatened a flight attendant and engaged in physical altercations with fellow passengers just before landing on the evening of March 5. Federal authorities have since taken Rulamka into custody and he faces serious charges including federal assault.
According to an FBI affidavit, as the aircraft began its descent, Rulamka purportedly confronted the flight attendant with threatening language and gestures. The situation escalated when Rulamka targeted a passenger who was recording the confrontation on his mobile phone. He allegedly assaulted this passenger, resulting in physical injuries including a bruised and bloodshot left eye.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene where Rulamka not only attacked the passenger who was filming but also lunged at another, who narrowly escaped physical harm, though sustaining minor injuries in the attempt to evade Rulamka’s aggressions.
In the aftermath of these violent outbursts, several passengers together with the flight crew managed to restrain Rulamka, securing him in a seat until the plane safely landed.
Upon arrival, Rulamka reportedly told authorities that he had traveled to the nation’s capital to seek an audience with former President Trump, candidly expressing his agitation when asked about his motives. This incident appears to stand alone from a similar event that transpired weeks earlier, involving another flight at a similar nighttime hour, hinting at a potentially alarming trend in air travel safety concerns.
Rulamka’s unsettling behavior also revives questions about his past, particularly a 2014 investigation related to an immigration violation, details of which remain under judicial consideration.
