Man Shot in Head While Exiting Car at Gas Station

The victim was listed in critical condition after being shot Thursday night.

CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago police are investigating after a 29-year-old man was shot in the head Thursday night while getting out of a car at a gas station in Pullman on the Far South Side.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 700 block of East 103rd Street. A person approached the man and fired shots, striking him in the head. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Authorities had not announced any arrests by Friday morning. Police did not release the victim’s name, the number of shots fired or a possible motive. Detectives also had not publicly said whether the shooter fled on foot or in a vehicle.

The case is being handled by Area Two detectives, who investigate shootings and other violent crimes on parts of the South and Far South sides. The shooting added to a violent week for Chicago police, who were also investigating other gunfire incidents across the city.

The attack happened at a public business during nighttime hours, a setting where investigators often look for surveillance video, shell casings and witness accounts. Police have not said what evidence was recovered at the scene.

The victim remained in critical condition after the shooting. The investigation remained active Friday, with the next update expected if police release a suspect description, announce an arrest or provide new information about the man’s condition.
