Jefferson County Authorities Seize $1.4 Million in Drug Bust

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Authorities in Jefferson County have seized over $300,000 in drugs and firearms, marking one of the largest busts in recent memory. The operation led to the arrest of 41-year-old Marcus Allen Harper, who faces charges of drug trafficking and is being held without bond, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The bust is part of an ongoing investigation aimed at dismantling high-level drug operations in the area. Sheriff Mark Pettway revealed that the street value of the confiscated items, which include drugs, guns, and cash, is estimated at $1.4 million.

During the raid, deputies seized $336,753 in cash, alongside a substantial quantity of narcotics. The haul included 32 pounds of cocaine, over 200 grams of methamphetamine, 50 grams of crack cocaine, and nearly 500 grams of marijuana. Additionally, four semi-automatic firearms were discovered, comprising two rifles and two handguns.

Sheriff Pettway emphasized the importance of community cooperation in such operations, noting that teamwork is crucial in dismantling illegal activities and ensuring public safety. He stated that the seized drugs would undergo laboratory testing to determine if they had been adulterated with other substances.

The sheriff underscored the department’s commitment to protecting citizens, highlighting that significant drug seizures contribute to their mission of maintaining community safety. He also acknowledged the invaluable role of local residents in supporting law enforcement efforts.
