Florence, South Carolina — A 10th teenager is anticipated to turn themselves in to authorities as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright. Reports indicate that Wright was allegedly led to a remote location and filmed as he was shot, marking a disturbing escalation in youth violence.
Wright was tragically killed in June after his girlfriend, 17-year-old Gianna Kistenmacher, is said to have helped orchestrate a confrontation. According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, she brought Wright to an isolated area along a rural road, where he came face to face with 19-year-old Devan Scott Raper, who had previously threatened him with a gun over a dispute involving a girl.
The confrontation escalated quickly, leading to an argument between the two young men. During this exchange, one individual reportedly began recording, capturing the moment when Raper allegedly fired multiple shots, fatally wounding Wright.
Raper was taken into custody the day after Wright’s body was discovered on June 24. In the weeks following, eight additional teenagers were charged for their reported involvement in facilitating the murder. The grim details surrounding the case have raised significant alarm within the community and among law enforcement.
Kistenmacher faces charges as an accessory before the fact. Authorities believe she was aware that Raper was armed and intentionally provoked the deadly encounter. She has since been released on bond and placed under home confinement.
In addition to Raper and Kistenmacher, several other suspects have been arrested, including 18-year-olds Hunter Kendall and Corrine Belviso, as well as 17-year-old Sydney Kearns. The specifics of their involvement remain unclear as investigations continue.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that the decision to charge multiple teenagers was not made lightly. Major Michael Nunn stated that the legal concept in South Carolina holds that if one person is culpable, others involved may also share responsibility.
As the investigation unfolds, the case serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of youth violence and the importance of community vigilance in preventing such tragedies. The expected surrender of the tenth suspect indicates that law enforcement is committed to holding all responsible parties accountable.
