Jacob Hensley, 28, died after a late-night shooting near 20th and Little Raven streets.
DENVER, Colo. — A Denver widow is seeking answers after her husband, 28-year-old Jacob Hensley, was shot near the downtown skatepark late May 21 and later died at Denver Health Medical Center.
Denver police said the investigation remains open and no arrests have been announced. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner ruled Hensley’s death a homicide and said he died from multiple gunshot wounds after being taken by ambulance from the 2000 block of Little Raven Street.
Allison Hensley said her husband had gone back outside before the shooting. “He went back outside and he never came back home,” she said in an interview with 9NEWS. She described him as a husband and father of four whose death has left the family searching for answers.
Police responded around 11 p.m. near 20th and Little Raven streets, an area close to Denver Skatepark and the Ballpark District. Officers found Hensley with a gunshot wound, and he was taken to the hospital. The medical examiner was notified of his death at 12:15 a.m. May 22.
Investigators have said everyone involved in the shooting has been contacted, but they have not announced charges. Officials have not released a public account of what led to the gunfire, who fired the shots or whether any weapon was recovered. Those details remain unknown as the case continues.
The shooting happened in one of Denver’s most visible public recreation areas, near apartments, nightlife and paths along the South Platte River. Denver Skatepark has long drawn skaters and visitors from across the city, but the latest killing has renewed concern among people who live and spend time nearby.
Allison Hensley said her husband did not deserve to die. Her comments came one week after the shooting, as the family waited for more information from police and prosecutors. The case has not moved into a public court process because no arrest or charging decision has been announced.
The investigation remained active Monday, with Hensley’s family waiting for answers and police saying no arrests had been made.
