CLEVELAND, TN – A deadly shooting at Baku Plastics has left two employees dead and a community searching for answers as federal and state authorities delve into the investigation.
The incident unfolded Monday morning when Cleveland police responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found Tobias Jelinek and Ivan Aldershot, a vice president at the company, deceased inside the facility.
The suspect, identified as a former employee, had barricaded himself in a nearby home, leading to a dramatic standoff. Law enforcement utilized drones and robots to navigate the situation, ultimately discovering the suspect had died by suicide.
Residents in the typically quiet neighborhood of Samples Chapel Road were stunned by the events. Joshua Scott, a local resident, expressed disbelief that such violence could erupt in their community. “It’s something you never expect to happen here,” Scott shared.
Scott recounted how his son was drawn outside by the commotion, witnessing the SWAT teams and drones. “It’s been a traumatic experience for all of us,” he added.
The Cleveland Police Department is treating the case as a double homicide, while the medical examiner’s office continues its investigation. A spokesperson for the police department extended thoughts and prayers to those affected.
