Midnapore, India — Authorities in West Midnapore district are set to investigate a troubling scenario at a local poultry farm in the Debra block, where hundreds of chicken carcasses have raised health and safety concerns. Following complaints from residents about a pronounced foul smell emanating from the Chaltageria farm site, the state’s animal husbandry department announced the imminent dispatch of a specialist team.
Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, Chinmoy Chakraborty, confirmed that the investigation would begin on Tuesday morning, aiming to uncover the cause of this mass poultry die-off. Local inhabitants first noticed the issue and alerted authorities, fearing potential implications to both public health and the local economy.
The farm in question is operated under a lease by owner Ishwar Samanta, who has denied any misconduct leading to the birds’ demise. In response to the crisis, Samanta notified the company supplying the chicks, who in turn, blamed the farm’s management for the deaths. From Samanta’s perspective, the responsibility for dealing with the aftermath falls to the chick supplier. Yet, the supplier staunchly refutes any connection to avian diseases such as bird flu, maintaining that poor farm management led to the chickens’ death.
