The early morning case began with a 911 call about a family member armed inside a home.
CONROE, Texas — Montgomery County deputies arrested a 23-year-old man Monday after his mother was found fatally shot inside a Beeson Road home following an early morning family disturbance, authorities said.
Michael Levi Flores is expected to be charged with murder in the death of 50-year-old Jana Flores, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies said the incident started with a report of a firearm threat inside the home and ended with Flores in custody after a nearby crash.
The first 911 call came in about 5:20 a.m. from a residence on Beeson Road in the Conroe area. The caller told dispatchers that a family member was threatening people inside with a gun. As deputies headed to the address, authorities received another report that the suspect may have fired a shot.
Investigators said Flores fled the home before deputies arrived. A short time later, he crashed his vehicle nearby, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies confronted him near the crash site and said he resisted. Officials said a physical struggle followed before deputies used less-lethal force to gain control of him. No deputies were hurt.
Deputies then went back to the home and found Jana Flores suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said two family members were inside the home at the time, but officials did not report other injuries Monday.
Flores was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after the arrest. Sheriff’s officials said he would be booked into the Montgomery County Jail after medical clearance. Detectives had not released a possible motive, and the sheriff’s office said the investigation was still active.
Crime scene investigators and Major Crimes detectives worked at the Beeson Road property Monday. Officials said early findings showed the violence was limited to the family and that there was no continuing danger to neighbors or the wider public.
The case remained open Monday as detectives prepared the murder charge and continued reviewing evidence from the home, the crash scene and witness statements.
