Police said a 17-year-old suspect was arrested after the Sunday morning attack on Glen Echo Drive.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A stabbing early Sunday in north Columbus killed one person, injured another and led to murder and felony assault charges against a 17-year-old, according to Columbus police.
Police said officers responded shortly around 7 a.m. to the 2600 block of Glen Echo Drive. When they arrived, they found two victims suffering from multiple stab wounds. Medics took both victims to a local hospital in critical condition.
One victim died at 7:58 a.m., police said. The other victim was expected to survive. Officials withheld the victims’ names pending notification of next of kin, and police did not immediately describe the relationship between the victims and the suspect.
The suspect, who is 17, was arrested after the stabbing. Police said the teen faces charges of murder and felony assault. Investigators have not publicly said what sparked the attack or whether any weapon was recovered at the scene.
The stabbing drew a long police presence to a residential stretch of Glen Echo Drive. Neighbors told ABC 6 the area is usually calm, making the crime scene tape and officers on the block stand out through the morning and afternoon.
One longtime resident said she had lived nearby for nearly 50 years and spoke with officers as they investigated. She said neighbors were sharing reports that someone had been hurt and that police were searching the area after the attack.
Devin Keithley, another neighbor, said the case was upsetting. “It’s just disturbing,” Keithley said, adding that the violence left people on the block shaken.
Dr. Sean Stevenson of End the Violence said young people need to understand the consequences of violence, while adults need to pay attention to stress and warning signs. Police said homicide detectives are continuing to seek information in the case.
The case remains under investigation as authorities prepare the next court steps for the teen suspect.
