Police said a second man stayed at the scene after firing during a confrontation.
PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia police are reviewing a fatal Sunday night shooting at a Frankford convenience store after saying video showed one man point a gun before another man opened fire.
The shooting was reported about 7:49 p.m. at a Royal Farms in the 2500 block of Church Street. Officers found a 22-year-old man on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. Police said he was taken for treatment and pronounced dead at 8:09 p.m.
Investigators said the shooting began inside the store during a confrontation between two men. Police said the 22-year-old entered the store, approached a 21-year-old customer and pointed a firearm toward his head and neck.
The 21-year-old, who police said was legally carrying a firearm, then drew his gun and fired at least three shots. Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace said the wounded man tried to leave the store before collapsing outside.
Police said the 21-year-old stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers. No robbery was reported, and investigators said the shooting may be a case of self-defense. The cause of the confrontation remained unclear Monday.
A separate arrest was made at the scene. Police said a 45-year-old man was accused of taking images of the wounded man and moving a firearm toward trash cans. He was being charged with tampering with a crime scene and related charges.
The victim’s name had not been released. Police said detectives were continuing to review surveillance video, physical evidence and witness accounts from the store and sidewalk.
