Deadly Dimond District Shooting Claims One Life; Suspect Arrested as Investigation Unfolds

OAKLAND, Calif. — A shooting in the Dimond district early Thursday morning left one man dead and another wounded, prompting a swift police response and an arrest of a suspect later in the day.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight around 12:42 a.m. in the 3400 block of MacArthur Boulevard, between Midvale Avenue and 35th Avenue. According to authorities, the two men involved were both 49 years old and had a prior acquaintance, although details about their residences remain undisclosed.

Emergency services were alerted by a gunshot detection system, leading officers to the scene where they discovered one man unresponsive. He was transported to a local hospital but was later declared dead. The second man, suffering multiple injuries, managed to make his way to the hospital independently. Officials have yet to provide an update on his condition.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, with police stating that details of what led to the violent altercation are still under investigation. It has yet to be confirmed whether the shooter was on foot or inside a vehicle at the time of the incident.

So far this year, Oakland police are investigating a total of 29 homicides, which matches the number of investigations recorded at the same time last year.
