FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. – Maryland State Police are seeking information on potential homicide cases related to a deceased convicted murderer and former truck driver. The investigation centers on Garry Artman, who faced charges for the murder of Dusty Shuck after his confession in December 2023.
Artman, 64, of White Springs, Florida, was charged with first- and second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault in relation to Shuck’s 2006 death. While awaiting extradition to Maryland, Artman died on December 28, 2023, having already been incarcerated in Michigan for a separate murder case.
During his time in jail, Artman confessed to Shuck’s murder and other violent crimes while undergoing treatment for a terminal illness at a Michigan hospital. The revelation brought a measure of closure to the victim’s mother, Lori Kreutzer, who expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment of Artman’s guilt.
Kreutzer, now residing in Tucson, Arizona, described her daughter as a gentle and caring individual who had been living with schizophrenia before her untimely death. Artman’s death has led authorities to speculate about additional unsolved cases linked to his transient lifestyle as a truck driver.
Elena Russo, a spokesperson for Maryland State Police, emphasized the continued effort to pursue justice for potential victims connected to Artman’s crimes. The investigation represents a collaboration among law enforcement agencies in Maryland, Michigan, and the FBI.
Those with pertinent information are encouraged to contact the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, with the option of remaining anonymous. The pursuit of justice for these cases remains ongoing, reflecting a commitment to bringing closure to impacted families and communities.
