Columbus Man Accused Of Killing Wife And 11-Year-Old Girl

Derrick Green is accused of killing Shalimar Green and 11-year-old Aliv’eyah Chandler.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A judge set bond at $5 million Friday for Derrick Green, the Columbus man charged with murder after his wife and her 11-year-old daughter were found dead inside a home on Chatsworth Way.

Green, 35, appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court two days after police said officers were called to the east Columbus home for a welfare check. The victims were identified as 33-year-old Shalimar Green and Aliv’eyah Chandler. Investigators said Shalimar Green had been involved in an ongoing domestic dispute with Derrick Green before the killings.

Police said officers were dispatched about 7:11 p.m. Wednesday to the 2900 block of Chatsworth Way after relatives asked authorities to check on the woman and child. Before officers arrived, a relative found them dead inside the residence. Medics pronounced both victims dead at the scene.

Prosecutors said in court that both victims suffered multiple gunshot and stab wounds. Investigators reported finding spent shell casings, a blood-covered knife and clothing believed to belong to Green that was soaked in blood. Authorities said Green left the home before police arrived but was later arrested by SWAT officers without incident.

Court records cited in the case show Shalimar Green and Derrick Green were in the process of ending their marriage. Local reports also show Green had faced earlier violent allegations, including a 2023 domestic violence and strangulation case involving Shalimar Green. That case did not move forward after a grand jury declined to indict him.

The hearing drew emotional statements from relatives, including family members mourning Aliv’eyah and Shalimar Green. Outside the home, neighbors and loved ones left candles, flowers, stuffed animals and chalk messages as a memorial grew along Chatsworth Way.

Green remains in custody as the case moves forward. Police said the investigation is active, and additional court proceedings are expected after Friday’s arraignment.
