BAYTOWN, TX – A mother in Baytown is facing serious charges after authorities discovered her 11-year-old son with autism living in appalling conditions. Court records reveal that Rachael Blaylock has been charged with injury to a child and possession of methamphetamine.
The young boy, who is nonverbal and unable to care for himself, was found in May during a police welfare check. Weighing less than 50 pounds, he was taken to a hospital where doctors diagnosed him with autism and reported signs of malnutrition and abuse.
During a recent court hearing, prosecutors described the appalling circumstances the child endured. Allegations include that he was confined to a room filled with his own waste, living on a mattress covered in feces.
Investigators say the child was isolated in a locked room within a mobile home shared with other family members, unable to communicate or use the bathroom. When police arrived, they discovered the boy covered in dried feces, even in his ears and mouth.
The boy was immediately taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services and placed in foster care as the investigation unfolded. Authorities continued their efforts to locate and arrest Blaylock.
Upon her arrest, Blaylock was found with a container she claimed held her deceased partner’s ashes. However, it was later identified as containing crystal meth, resulting in additional drug charges against her.
Blaylock remains in Harris County Jail, where she has been held for several days. Attempts to reach her attorney for comment have been unsuccessful.
The case has raised concerns about the welfare of children with disabilities and the conditions they may face when proper care is lacking. Community members and child welfare advocates are urging for more stringent oversight to prevent such tragedies.
