Police: Woman Shot, Stabbed Man Before Dumping Remains

Police say the victim and suspect lived together before the killing.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A 31-year-old San Angelo woman has been charged with murder after police said a man was shot, stabbed, dismembered and his remains were hidden in multiple places this week.

Police identified the victim as Roland Matthew Sheppard, 34, and the suspect as Audrey Troncoso. Investigators said they received information June 24 about a possible homicide in the 1400 block of Parker Street and began searching for evidence tied to the case.

San Angelo Police Chief Travis Griffith said officers developed leads during the first 12 hours of the investigation. “We have a suspect in custody, and we don’t believe there’s any threat to the public,” Griffith said during an early briefing, adding that the suspect and victim knew each other.

Police said detectives later determined Troncoso shot Sheppard in the face and stabbed him numerous times, causing his death. Investigators said she then tried to conceal and dispose of his remains. Portions of Sheppard’s remains were recovered at the Republic Services landfill at 3002 Old Ballinger Highway.

Authorities said the remains were traced to a dumpster in the 600 block of Baker Street. Police said the contents had already been taken toward the landfill when investigators began searching. Detectives also reported finding bloody clothing and a large piece of carpet as part of the evidence collection.

Troncoso was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on June 24. Her bond was set at $2 million. Police said a motive has not been released, and the exact time of the killing remains under investigation.

Police later arrested Mario Valdes Troncoso Jr., Audrey Troncoso’s father, on a charge of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. Investigators said he is accused of helping conceal and dispose of the victim’s remains.

Griffith described the case as one of the most violent homicides local investigators had handled in recent memory. Police said the investigation remains active, with detectives still processing evidence and reviewing the sequence of events.
