CHARLOTTE, NC – On a seemingly ordinary Friday afternoon at Randolph Middle School, an unexpected incident on May 5 has left parents and staff questioning the school’s safety protocols and communication transparency. The altercation involved parents and school officials, highlighting ongoing concerns within the district.
Alicia Hicks, both a teacher and parent in the district, voiced her dissatisfaction with the administration’s lack of communication. Hicks believes that the failure to address incidents openly fosters mistrust among parents and the community, suggesting that the handling of such events might not always be above board.
Principal Jennifer Schrader was identified as a victim in the altercation, according to court documents. The incident reportedly began when Mariah Hector’s daughter alerted her to a fight at the school. Hector, accompanied by family members, arrived on campus and allegedly refused to leave, escalating the situation further.
Hicks emphasized the importance of balancing academic instruction with social-emotional development. She believes that neglecting the latter can lead to conflicts and unrest among students and their families, exacerbating tensions within the school community.
The district has not commented on whether Schrader’s suspension, which followed the incident by two weeks, is connected to the events of that day. Her suspension with pay has left many parents demanding clearer explanations and transparency from school officials.
Hector now faces multiple charges and is banned from the school, underscoring the need for improved conflict resolution and communication strategies within the district to prevent future incidents.
