Brothers Shot Dead As Sister Watched, Miami Police Say

The victims were identified as Jaheim Pierre and Gianni Pierre.

MIAMI, Fla. — A Miami police arrest report says a domestic dispute led to the fatal shooting of two brothers at a Liberty City apartment, where officers later detained the sister’s boyfriend with a handgun in his pocket.

The suspect, Antwan Carter, 31, was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Jaheim Pierre, 23, and Gianni Pierre, 28. A judge denied Carter bond Monday as investigators continued building a case from witness statements, surveillance video and evidence recovered inside the apartment.

Police said officers arrived at 5329 NW 17th Ave. and found the brothers suffering from gunshot wounds. Jaheim Pierre died at the apartment. Gianni Pierre was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The report said Carter was pacing when officers arrived and told them, “I’m the one. I have the firearm.” Police said they recovered a 9mm Glock from his right pocket.

The victims’ sister told officers she had been inside the apartment with Carter when her brothers arrived. She said her brothers were protective because of past domestic violence involving Carter, according to the report. Police said an argument involving Jaheim Pierre and Carter turned physical, and the sister left to ask a neighbor to call police.

When the woman returned, Carter had left and she locked the door, the report said. Investigators said Carter then came back, banged on the door and yelled for someone to open it. The woman told her brothers not to open the door, but Jaheim Pierre opened it, according to police. Carter then began shooting, the report said.

Police said Gianni Pierre was sitting on a couch when he was shot. Jaheim Pierre ran toward his sister and collapsed on top of her after being shot, according to the report. Carter then sat on the edge of a bed and said, “See what you made me,” the report said. The woman left the apartment after the shooting.

Detectives said surveillance video showed Carter leaving the apartment, going to his car, grabbing something and returning with it in his pocket before the shooting. A search of the apartment found spent casings and blood in several areas, including near the couch and inside a closet. Carter told detectives he shot the brothers after returning and seeing them with raised fists, the report said.

Carter’s case now moves forward in Miami-Dade court after the no-bond ruling. Prosecutors have not announced a final trial plan, but the murder charge carries the possibility of the death penalty if Carter is convicted.
