The woman told dispatchers her brother had shot her boyfriend after a fight inside the home.
LAS VEGAS — Homicide detectives are reviewing a fatal southwest valley shooting after police said a man shot his sister’s boyfriend during a domestic fight early Saturday.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the case began around 5 a.m. when a woman called dispatchers and said her brother had shot her boyfriend. Officers responded to a home near Torrey Pines Drive and Windmill Lane and took the brother into custody without incident.
Police said officers found the boyfriend inside the house with a gunshot wound. First responders attempted life-saving aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities had not released his identity by Monday, pending notification of relatives by the Clark County coroner’s office.
According to police, the woman and her boyfriend were arguing before the boyfriend began hitting her. The brother heard the fight from elsewhere in the home, went upstairs and saw the attack, police said. Investigators said he tried several times to make the boyfriend stop before shooting him.
No other injuries were reported. Police said people inside the home cooperated with officers and detectives. The department said the shooting was contained to the home and did not pose a wider danger to the neighborhood.
The case now moves through a review that typically includes witness interviews, evidence processing, a coroner’s ruling and a decision by prosecutors on whether criminal charges are warranted. Police had not said Monday whether the brother remained in custody or had been booked into jail.
The home is in the Enterprise area, a fast-growing part of the southwest Las Vegas Valley with neighborhoods, schools and commercial corridors near Windmill Lane. The shooting brought a homicide investigation into a residential block during the start of the Memorial Day weekend’s final stretch.
Police had not released body camera footage, 911 audio or a detailed incident report. The next major update is expected after the coroner identifies the man who died or prosecutors decide how to handle the brother’s role in the shooting.
