Border Patrol Agent Wounded in Manhattan Park Robbery Attempt

NEW YORK, NY – A Border Patrol agent, off duty at the time, is recuperating after being shot in a New York City park. The Department of Homeland Security announced that a suspect is now in custody.

The incident unfolded when surveillance cameras recorded two men arriving on a scooter. One of them fired shots, striking the agent in the face and arm. Despite his injuries, the agent fired back, hitting the suspect in the leg. Authorities confirmed that the attack was not related to the agent’s occupation.

The suspect, Miguel Mora, 21, is a Dominican national who illegally entered the U.S. through Arizona in 2023. Despite a deportation order issued last year, Mora remained in the U.S. He has a history of arrests for domestic violence and robbery and was wanted for a kidnapping in Massachusetts.

Mayor Eric Adams voiced his concerns about Mora’s continued freedom despite his criminal past, highlighting the need for more robust enforcement against violent offenders.

Police are also searching for a second suspect who escaped on the scooter. They have since detained him, confirming he is also an undocumented immigrant.

This event underscores the ongoing challenges in immigration enforcement, particularly concerning individuals with violent records. Authorities are striving to provide law enforcement with the tools necessary to manage such threats effectively.

The community is left questioning how individuals with such backgrounds can continue to pose a threat, emphasizing the need for improved safety measures.

The agent’s family remains hopeful for his recovery, while the suspect faces charges, including attempted murder, which complicates his legal standing.
