BENGALURU, India — Authorities have detained two suspects following the discovery of a woman’s body in an autorickshaw over the weekend, sparking an investigation into a chilling murder case. The victim, identified as Salma, 35, was found lifeless in the back seat of a parked vehicle in Tilaknagar on Saturday evening, raising alarm among nearby residents who alerted the police.
Salma, a domestic worker and mother of four, was discovered approximately 300 meters from the local police station with visible trauma to her head and neck. Investigators reported that she had been living alone since her husband passed away several years ago, which added a layer of tragedy to the circumstances surrounding her death.
Law enforcement officials say that the suspects are individuals familiar to Salma. Subramani, her romantic partner, and his friend Senthil have both been taken into custody. Police believe the murder was motivated by jealousy after Subramani suspected Salma of being involved with someone else. They allegedly transported her body to the autorickshaw after committing the crime at Subramani’s residence.
Ongoing interrogations of the suspects aim to clarify the sequence of events leading to Salma’s death. Police have also initiated a hunt for further evidence by tracing the autorickshaw’s registration details, which may open more avenues in the investigation.
Community members expressed shock over the incident, underscoring the need for greater safety measures for vulnerable individuals, particularly women living alone in urban areas. Local leaders have called for increased awareness and support for domestic workers, who face unique challenges in society.
Authorities are working to ensure justice is served in this case, as the investigation continues to unfold. As the community mourns, officials emphasize the importance of addressing issues of domestic violence and the vulnerabilities faced by individuals in similar situations.
