Architect Expects To Be Charged in Death of Fourth Woman In Long Island Marsh

HEMPSTEAD, New York – Rex Heuermann, the alleged serial killer, is set to appear in court on Long Island, facing charges in connection to the death of a fourth woman. The woman’s remains were found in a marshy area near Gilgo Beach, sources familiar with the case have disclosed.

Already facing charges for the killings of three women whose bodies were discovered wrapped in burlap in close proximity, Heuermann is now expected to be indicted for the death of a fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes. He has pleaded not guilty to the killings of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Costello, and is being held without bail.

Prosecutors are anticipated to announce the grand jury indictment on the fourth murder charge during Heuermann’s next court appearance in Riverhead. They suspect that Brainard-Barnes was found with a belt bearing the initials WH, which they believe could belong to Heuermann’s father.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office, handling the prosecution of Heuermann, did not provide any comment. Investigators linked Heuermann, an architect, to the women through DNA evidence, including a sample taken from pizza crust found in the trash outside his Manhattan office.

The case has brought renewed attention to the unsolved deaths of six other victims in the Gilgo Beach area.

In summary, Rex Heuermann, the alleged serial killer in Long Island, is expected to face a fourth murder charge amid ongoing investigations into the unsolved deaths of several victims.
