CHICAGO, Ill. — A 42-year-old woman died after Chicago police found her suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a West Side residence early Sunday, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched shortly after midnight Sept. 6 to the 2100 block of West Jackson Boulevard. Police found the woman unresponsive inside the home and arranged for her to be taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police had not publicly identified the woman as of Monday morning. Authorities also had not released information about what happened before the shooting, whether anyone else was inside the residence or whether investigators believe the woman was specifically targeted.
No one was in custody following the shooting, according to police. Investigators had not announced a description of a suspect or released information about a possible motive.
The shooting was reported at approximately 12:04 a.m. Sunday. Police have released few details beyond the location, the woman’s age and the circumstances in which officers found her. There was no public information indicating how long she had been injured before officers arrived.
Published reports have used both Near West Side and Garfield Park to describe the area of the shooting. The confirmed location given by police was the 2100 block of West Jackson Boulevard on Chicago’s West Side.
Authorities have not said whether detectives recovered a weapon, surveillance video or other evidence from the residence. Police also have not publicly described the circumstances that brought officers to the home beyond reports of gunfire.
The woman’s death remains under investigation. Area Three detectives were handling the case, and police had announced no arrests as of the latest available reports.
